Create a Forge Minecraft Server (India Guide)

Forge is the longest-established Minecraft mod loader with the widest catalog of mods and modpacks — useful when a specific pack your group wants to play requires it.

What Is Forge and When to Use It

Forge has the deepest mod ecosystem in Minecraft, including tech, magic, exploration and large kitchen-sink modpacks maintained for years. Choose Forge when a specific mod or modpack requires it, or when NeoForge (the Forge successor) is listed as a dependency — NeoForge servers use the same creation flow with the NeoForge software type.

Create Your Forge Server

  1. Create a new server and select Forge(or NeoForge, if the pack requires it) as the server software.
  2. Match the exact Minecraft version the modpack targets — Forge builds are strictly version-locked.
  3. Select the Java version documented by the modpack; large packs commonly need more memory headroom.
  4. Allocate RAM using the pack author's recommendation, not a generic default.

Install a Forge Modpack

Ametistos installs Modrinth modpacks with the loader, Minecraft version and Java runtime matched automatically. See How to Install a Modrinth Modpack on a Minecraft Server .

Performance Tips for Large Modpacks

  • Large kitchen-sink packs can need significantly more RAM than a plugin server with the same player count — budget credits accordingly before launch.
  • Every connecting player needs the identical modpack version installed client-side, or the connection will fail.
  • When startup fails, check the first relevant console error rather than the final shutdown line — Forge logs are verbose.

Forge vs Fabric vs Paper

Forge offers the broadest catalog of established mods and modpacks. For newer, lighter modpacks with faster version support, see Fabric . For plugin-based servers with no client-side installation, see Paper .
